It is interesting listening to some complain how we aren’t guided to “walk around in the shoes” of the black characters in the story. It’s striking because much of the story is about white people having to deal with racism from white people. The narration gives us a reference of young confusion as to why people around her act and think as they do, and how explanations can serve to muddy the waters even further.

It feels like the title refers more to the decision involved in judging, targeting and or indeed meeting out violence. The notion revolving around a judgement referencing “who you are to me” rather than who or what you actually are. Its about how we perceive others in many different ways and how our rush to judge only serves to let ignorance interfere with our understanding of life.
